SCI 1100 (# 16319) – Fall 2003

CRBL 302

M 14:00-16:45

Each week the class will meet in CRBL 302.

Coordinator: Dr. Knaust, Bell Hall 122, 747-7002, hknaust@utep.edu

SCI 1100 [Science Seminar] is an “omnibus course” with each of the six science areas (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics and Physics) providing two hands-on laboratory experiments.

This course has three objectives: to  (1) develop your learning skills, (2) show the interdependence among all the sciences and mathematics, and (3) keep your interest in science alive. The course design will expose you to the scientific method in a variety of settings and shows you both the commonality and the diversity of the various science areas.

Each instructor is responsible for assigning student grades (0-100) for their laboratory.

The coordinator will average the best 10 out of 12 lab grades and assign a final grade for the course (A 90-100, B 80-89, C 70-79, D 60-69, F below 60). Attendance is mandatory. Each absence will result in a grade of 0 for the laboratory you miss.

The course schedule is subject to change. An up-to-date version can be found at http://helmut.knaust.info/200410_sci1100/schedule.html
