Revision as of 22:02, 26 April 2021

Week 12 (4/12-4/18)

  • Read Section 3.5. If you have spare time, start reading Section 3.7.
  • HW Problems: 3.5: 2,4,11,12,18a,18b,18c,18e,20,22a,23a,23b,23c
  • 14. Repeated Eigenvalues

  • I just returned your second test. Here are the Test 2 - Solutions
  • Lab 2 is due tomorrow.

Week 11 (4/5-4/11)

  • Test 2 is on Tuesday, April 6. Lab 2 is due on Tuesday, April 13.
  • Read Section 3.4. This is not one of the easier sections.
  • HW Problems: 3.4: 2,4a,4b,4c,4d,6a,6b,6c,6d,10a,10b,10c,15a,15b,15c,16,17,20,22,23a,23b,23c
  • 13. Complex Eigenvalues

Week 10 (3/29-4/4)

  • Read Section 3.3.
  • HW Problems: 3.3: 2,4,10,12,14,20a,20b,20c
  • 12. Straight Line Solutions III

  • Test 2 will take place on Tuesday, April 6, 1:30-3:00. The test will cover the material we studied up to (including) Section 3.3. I usually give test problems from material covered after Test 1, but this time I may include a problem on bifurcations from Section 1.7.
  • I will hold general office hours on Blackboard Collaborate Ultra on Thursday, April 1, 1:30-3:00. Make sure you have your questions for the test ready by then.
  • The test procedures will be the same as last time:
    • I will email the test to you at 1:30. You may only use writing utensils and a calculator. You are not allowed to use any other material (textbook, notes, CyberBoard, electronic resources, communication devices, etc.) Print out the test, write in the space provided. (If you don't have a printer, use your own paper - clearly mark the problem you are working on.) When you have finished, scan your work or take photos with your cell, assemble into one PDF file. Then email the PDF file back to me at hknaust@utep.edu by 3:00.
      • I will only accept a single PDF file from you. There are quite a few apps that turn your photos or documents into a single PDF file. Test this works before the exam! If you submit multiple files or files in DOCX, JPG, etc. format, you will receive 0 points on your exam!
      • The test is due at 3:00 sharp. Make sure you are in a location with reliable internet service. I will deduct 1 point for every minute your test arrives late after 3:00.
  • Note that April 1 is the W-drop deadline printed in the Academic Calendar.

Week 9 (3/22-3/28)

  • Lab 1 is due on Tuesday! Please email your team report to me in one PDF file (no exceptions).
  • Read Sections 3.1 & 3.2.
  • HW Problems: 3.1: 6,8,14,15,16a,16b,16c,26; 3.2: 2,14b,16,20a
  • 10. Straight Line Solutions I

  • 11. Straight Line Solutions II

Week 8 (3/8-3/14)

  • Read Sections 2.4-2.6.
  • HW Problems: 2.4: 4,7,13a,13b,13c; 2.5: 2,4,8; 2.6: 8a,8b,10
  • After Spring break we will start Chapter 3. You may be interested to look at 2.7 (epidemics) and 2.8 ("butterfly effect"), but this is not a mandatory assignment.
  • Test 1 - Solutions
  • 9. Test 1 - Comments

Week 7 (3/1-3/7)

  • Read Sections 2.2 and 2.3.
  • HW Problems: 2.2: 7a,7b,7c,10a,10b,11,14a,14b,14c,21a,21d; 2.3: 2a,2b,2c,6a,6b,6c. (You cannot upload images to the CyberBoard, but you can link to images hosted on your onedrive, dropbox, etc account, using the URL tag on the CyberBoard.)

Week 6 (2/22-2/28)

  • Read Section 2.1.
  • HW Problems: 2.1: 1,2,3,4,5,6,8a,8b.
  • 7. Phase Plane Plots

  • The first test on February 25, 1:30-3:00 p.m. will cover all of Chapter 1. A good preparation for you should be to work as many review problems (pp. 136-141) as possible, going back to reading relevant sections of the textbook, if you run into problems.
  • I will hold live office hours on February 23 during class time via Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. I will try to answer questions you may have; I do not give reviews.
